About me

Samuel Rangel

Since I was little, at home in Venezuela, there was always a painting workshop 24 hours a day with all imaginable and unimaginable materials, from the classic acrylics and oils to "chimó" or chewing tobacco and coffee as dyes, thus following experimental techniques such as those of the master Armando Reverón.

With the simple fact of sharing daily life with my father - who was also a autodidact artist - I learned, between endless philosophical talks, the basic techniques of the different aspects of drawing and painting through continuous exercise to follow each of their movements; portraits, landscaping, abstractionism, etc.

As the daily study of painting and life itself grew, they began to mix, then they were always the same thing, holistic, thus being able to work from the most intimate and personal to the most commercial, such as posters or lettering. Craft fairs with sales stalls, group exhibitions and live painting with poetic and musical accompaniment.

In my adulthood I have taken my work towards large format painting and finally muralism, despite how atomized and hypercompetitive everything has become with social networks in globalization, I have also been taking my works to other fields such as printing and its different formats. Taking into account this inclusive freedom of our times, I have thought in my work of the theme of the skies as a possible return to the sacred, as a kind of vision/conducting thread with the Divine of the Universe, thus my paintings perhaps being windows to the interior that is nothing more than the outside itself, thus giving the work a more interactive life with those who experience it when seeing it.
